THE ARTIST

Pierre Abadie-Landel
Pierre
Abadie-Landel
1896 - 1972

A student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts until 1917, Abadie exhibited his paintings at may salons, including the Salon des artistes francais.  He produced a series of Breton seascapes, along with posters for various balls and galas, some of them held in Montparnasse, the Left Bank Parisian neighbourhood whose cheap rents attracted artists and intellectuals in the 1920’s.  Abadie’s participation in the Seiz Breur, a gropu of artistand artisans, suggests his interest in the folk traditions of Brittany.

We are grateful to Teri J. Edelstein and Neil Harris for the above information taken from their book En Guerre French Illustrators and World War 1, Neil Harris and Teri J  Edelstein, The University of Chicogo Library, 2014
