Lalique, Suzanne

(1892 – 1989)

Born in 1892, Suzanne Lalique is the daughter of René Lalique and Alice Ledru. She grew up under the watchful eyes of her father and her grandfather, the sculptor Auguste Ledru. Among her childhood friends, notable names include writers such as Paul Morand and Jean Giraudoux. Although discreet, Suzanne is a valuable assistant to her father, who regularly seeked her help.

Between 1914 and 1927, Suzanne Lalique-Haviland created over a dozen painted screens. Under her brush, still lives and everyday scenes come to life in surprising colours and meticulously crafted compositions. In total, she produces more than one hundred thirty paintings that constitute her own private collection: she paints for herself and not for others.
