The Cornish Collection

Musical instruments function as props in other examples, such as the lute in Mark Gertler’s Homage to Roger Fry, or the harp that Albert de Belleroche’s Tout-Paris model leans against in his portrait. And then there are images of musicians in full swing, from the bandsmen of John Armstrong’s ‘Peculiar Park’, to the guitar-strumming Maestro of Halliday’s Italian portrait, or the more earnest piano recital in Mahoney’s painting. Music is a theme that allows for many different interpretations.
