This study of teams of Land Girls thinning turnips was painted in the spring of 1943. The setting is a farm in Berwickshire, close to where the artist’s husband Roger Folley was undergoing night-fighter navigation training at RAF Charter Hall.
Curiously, the order of singling is in direct contradiction to that illustrated by Dunbar in A Book of Farmcraft.
