To celebrate the centenary of the RAF in the United Kingdom, Liss Llewellyn is delighted to present an online exhibition – ‘Chocks Away‘ – which features some key images of British aviation through the years.

A range of different planes feature, from RE8’s used in the First World War, through to Bristol Blenheim’s and Spitfires, made famous during the Battle of Britain. The selection also includes images of grounded aircraft on the home front, such as Charles Cundall’s (1890-1971) oil sketch of Wellington Bombers at an OCTU station in Londonderry, or the historic Wind Tunnels at Farnborough, painted by Barbara Jones (1912-1978) as part of the Recording Britain scheme.

Others capture the views newly afforded by these flying crafts, such as Douglas Percy Bliss’ (1900-1984) Aerial View, or the dynamic mid-air compositions of Lt Richard Barrett Talbot Kelly (1896-1971), Rudolf Sauter (1895-1977), and Christopher Nevinson (1889-1946).
