A Grand Tour

As with Vézelay, fellow abstract artist John Cecil Stephenson looked to explore the sonorous quality of paint, and Jasia Reichardt states that the artist ‘drew inspiration from music and architecture and these are the essential and inevitable qualities which his work conveys.’ Accent – featured in this exhibition – was part of Stephenson’s first one-man show at the Drian Galleries, where every picture was assigned a musical title.
